Tomates Provençales

Following a simple recipe in French is a fun way to apply and embed vocabulary and key phrases. In addition, add a real taste of intercultural understanding to your lessons with this authentic French dish. This particular recipe was kindly shared by the grandparents of two of my Year 4 pupils.

We gave each ingredient and imperative verb an action. Then we played a few games, such as Jacques a dit (Simon Says) to help memorise the ingredients. Working in small teams the whole class followed the recipe using as much French as possible we added and mixed the ingredients.

While the tomatoes were cooking, we collected the verbs from the recipe instructions. We practised the actions related to each verb. We noticed the spellings.
